Biography
Domenico Siniscalco is a Board Member of Banco BPM. Until 31 March 2026, he served as Vice Chairman and Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley Europe, where, from 2006 to 2023, he was Managing Director, Country Head of Italy and Head of Government Coverage EMEA.
He has extensive experience in public institutions. From 2001 to 2004, he served as Director General of the Italian Treasury and, from July 2004 to September 2005, as Italy’s Minister of Economy and Finance. In this capacity, he was a member of the Eurogroup, the G7/G8 and served as Italy’s Governor at the International Monetary Fund.
Throughout his career, he has held numerous positions on the boards and advisory bodies of leading Italian and international institutions. He is Chairman of the Council for the United States and Italy, Fondazione Luigi Einaudi and Fondazione Courmayeur Mont Blanc, and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei. He is also Chairman of the Advisory Board and Board Member of Collegio Carlo Alberto in Turin, and a Board Member of Reply. He is a member of the World Economic Forum, the Institute of International Finance, the International Finance Forum of Beijing and the Future Investment Initiative Institute. He is also a member of the President’s Global Council at New York University. Previously, he served on the boards of Eni, Telecom Italia, HEC Paris and Grosvenor Group.
Alongside his professional and institutional career, he has pursued an extensive academic career at Cambridge, Louvain-la-Neuve, Johns Hopkins and the University of Turin, where he was Full Professor from 1990 to 2006. He was one of the lead authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, and has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Beijer Institute.
He is the author of several books and more than 70 academic articles on environmental economics, privatisation and structural change. He has also contributed as a columnist to la Repubblica, Il Sole 24 Ore and La Stampa.
He holds a Law degree from the University of Turin and a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
In 2024, he was awarded the title of Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
